Monitoring of active volcanoes in Peru by the Instituto Geofísico del Perú

Volcano monitoring in Peru is carried out by the Instituto Geofísico del Perú (IGP), through its Centro Vulcanológico Nacional (CENVUL). CENVUL monitors 12 of 16 volcanoes considered as historically active and potentially southern issues periodic bulletins about volcanic activity and, depending on alert-level each volcano, also alerts warnings unrest, ash dispersion, occurrence lahars. The information generated disseminated to civil authorities public different media (newsletters, e-mail, website, social media, mobile app, etc.). IGP volcanology team was formed after eruption Sabancaya volcano 1988. Since then, geophysical geological studies, hazards assessments, multidisciplinary realized IGP, have provided a comprehensive understanding forecast future eruptive scenarios. Currently, 80% are equipped with networks multiparameter instruments, seismic being most widely implemented. In this report, we present situation Peru, networks, techniques employed, well efforts educate inform officials responsible for disaster risk management.
